I’ve had way better experiences through safcu than anywhere else while getting a loan. Been self employed for years now but when I started and needed a new vehicle, the credit committee walked me through what was needed and helped me get approved for something in my budget.
Everyone is nice when I call and communicates clearly while I’m on the phone with them. Been here for decades so of course I’ve had some things happen here and there that needed to be corrected, but the most important part is they took care of it all.
Some things have changed over the years, faces, technology, processes, but overall I feel that they care about the community and helping people. That’s something which has never changed since I’ve been with safcu.

Not very pleased at all with San Angelo Federal Credit Union. There have been many different people in the loan department and a lot of them have no idea what they're selling or doing. I've been a member for a while and I purchased the Gap and True Stage Insurance with SAFCU and when it came down to using it they gave me the runaround and tried to do everything they could not to pay on it. What really upset me was when I filed a claim through True Stage disability, when it came down to using it they took months to approve it. In the meantime, I still made my payments every month and when True Stage paid on my claims, San Angelo Federal Credit Union kept my money I paid every month, so they actually got paid twice. They did not reimburse me my part. When I asked, they said it was just going to make the loan pay off sooner which I feel that is very unethical, because they received a payment from me the member and then received a payment from True Stage. So they got paid twice in actuality for these loans. Be careful if you purchase Gap or
True Stage insurance through them because they will do everything they can to get away from paying when it comes down to you using it.
Another credit union in town actually gave me my money back on the over payment for those months. Goes to show, who's really for the member.

I had a very frustrating experience while trying to change my last name and update the address on my account. I was told I could not do anything unless the joint account holder was present so I left. I then received a phone call from a clerk stating that I could change the name but not the address - that would require the the other person on the account. Assuming the name was changed, I returned to make a deposit and was told that none of the information had been updated and I would need the joint account holder present. Once again, I left. I returned to the bank with the joint account holder and at that time he was not asked for his name, his ID, his signature. NADA. I just simply said he was the other person on the account and they took my word for it. Needless to say, I closed my account with this bank.
